Our school is called the Provincial Technical Institute or just PTI in short. Our school has two campuses, one called TBS (‘horticultural school’) and the other KDG (it’s named after the street it’s in). We are located in Kortrijk (a city in West Flandres), near the French border.

We offer technical and vocational courses to more than 800 students, between 12 and 19 years old. Students usually study here for 6 years. The ones in the vocational courses can choose to study one more year (year 7) to specialize and get a diploma of a technical level.

On the campus TBS the different fields of study are Biotechnoloqy, Plants-Animals-Environment and Greenspace Management and Decoration. Then we have the campus KDG. Here the main study fields are Electricity, Mechanics and Textile. This last one has been divided in different subfields: Textile – Chemistry, Textile - Design and Textile Productions.

These two campuses together are the PTI, a school that proudly stands for Respect, Innovation, Commitment, Progress, Initiative, Teambuilding, Collaboration and Care.

Raising awareness on the importance of Energy Conservation and Environmental Sustainability is a priority for us. Therefore, our participation in this project, as coordinator, is considered a privilege and it is taken very seriously.

Our main educational goals are sustainability, education for Europe and workplace health promotion. With the „EineWeltLabor“ (One-World-Laboratory) we have developed a special learning place for education for sustainable development (ESD) according to these goals and the aims of the Agenda21. This laboratory is specialized in solar energy. In a number of projects and in cooperation with German and Nigerian NGO's we have developed products and appliances to use Solar Energy for hot water and electricity demands.

GERMANY

The Franz-Jürgens-Berufskolleg (FJBK) is a technical vocational school situated in Düsseldorf in Germany.

As a partner of the German Dual System, we offer vocational school education for about 3000 students in cooperation with about 700 training enterprises. We are teaching students in many metal-technical professions e.g. automotive engineering, mechatronics, industrial/mechanical engineering and building supply technologies.

  • The technician of information computer technology – students additionally take part in military training, which has become very popular in Poland recently, and they are prepared to future professional army service.

ZSTiO has been involved in various educational and European projects, like e-Twinning, Socrates Comenius, Comenius LLP, and projects in cooperation with the Army. In 2010 the Polish National Agency chose our Comenius project ‘A Bridge to the Students’ Active Life’ as an example of good practice and this year, the school has been awarded the title of the Leader of Educational Innovation for taking part in the EDUSCIENCE project.

The projects offer additional classes on science subjects and foreign languages, extra-curricular activities, educational trips and science camps. Thanks to all those activities students gain the opportunity to acquire and practice new skills, broaden their knowledge, develop their own interests and also meet traditions and culture of other countries.

However, our school is not only about learning. The students can attend many cultural and sport events, join the Theatre Group “MUNDI” or the school’s music band.
